Immediately following the procedure, Dr. Harris will provide you with written aftercare notes covering your baby’s immediate recovery period. Please read these instructions very carefully before leaving the clinic and keep them close at hand during the first 24 hours.

Your baby’s comfort, safety, and rest are our top priorities.

1. Feeding & Positioning

Feeding: Offer a feed shortly after the procedure if your baby is settled. Maintaining good fluid intake is essential for recovery.
Rest & Handling: Hold and cuddle your baby gently, keeping them in a calm environment. Avoid placing pressure directly on the groin area when holding or lying them down.

2. Nappy Care & Dressings

Nappy Placement: Fasten the nappy slightly looser than usual to prevent unnecessary pressure or friction on the surgical site.
Dressings: Keep the initial dressing intact as instructed by Dr. Harris. Detailed guidance on when and how to manage or change the initial dressing will be explained during your consultation and written in your discharge notes.

3. Pain Management (Paracetamol)

Pain Relief: Administering liquid paracetamol suspension is recommended to keep your baby comfortable during the first day.
Dosage Guidance: Always follow the specific dosage instructions provided directly by Dr. Harris or your pharmacist.
Pharmacist Advice: If purchasing paracetamol, your local pharmacist can confirm the appropriate, safe dosage for your baby’s age and weight.

4. What to Expect in the First 24 Hours

Behavior: It is normal for your baby to be sleepy or slightly more fussier than usual after the procedure.
Minor Spotting: A very small amount of minor spotting on the dressing or nappy can be expected initially.
