Before the procedure, Dr Harris will review your baby’s medical history and examine the penis to confirm that circumcision is appropriate.

Circumcision may need to be postponed, or specialist assessment may be recommended, if your baby is currently unwell; has a bleeding or clotting condition; has had unusual bleeding or bruising; has a relevant family history of bleeding problems; or has another significant medical concern.

Some penile features may require specialist assessment before circumcision. These can include an opening for urine that is not at the tip of the penis, marked curvature, a concealed or buried penis, significant skin webbing, or an unusual genital appearance. A history of prematurity does not automatically prevent circumcision, but Dr Harris will assess your baby’s current health, growth and suitability individually.
