URETHRAL STRICTURE

The urethra  carries the urine from the bladder to the outside of the body, in boys this is to the end of the penis. Narrowing of part of or all of the urethra is called urethral stricture and is more common in boys, the urethra is about 20cms; this narrowing affects the flow of urine causing a reduction or even a blockage of urine flow.

There are many causes of urethral stricture which may usually be caused by the development of scar tissue possibly from infection, illness or surgery causing the tissue to thicken and contract and narrow the urethral flow.

Urethral stricture is treated according to the site and degree of severity of the narrowing causing symptoms and signs.
